At Shiplake, we seek to do more than just prepare students to pass exams. We believe it is vital that our students develop learning dispositions that prepare them for the modern world. We believe qualities such as independence and creativity are just as important than grades, if not more so.
In seeking to move forward our provision for this kind of development, we have designed a ‘Thinking Space’: an environment specifically designed to foster and encourage creativity, collaboration and independence.
This innovative learning facility, which opened in September 2014, is inspired by creative companies such as Google and Innocent, who have shown that creative spaces help to encourage creative thought.
The unique, contemporary Thinking Space is divided into multiple sections, including a green room which is designed to facilitate group work and collaboration, and a flow room which is intended for focused, independent work.
Our aim is to create a place where young people want to learn, and to provide them with resources to support them in their learning. The Thinking Space is unique; it is the College's library, where pupils are encouraged to study and access the many digital resources at hand, and is home to dedicated study spaces. Most students will be using devices to access the school’s online subscription content platforms.
The Thinking Space is situated in the heart of the College grounds and will be at the heart of our ongoing commitment to develop young people passionate about thinking and learning.
