Gutsy Guitarists Perform Solo Concert
Music

On Tuesday 7 February, Year 13 musicians who are currently working towards their Music BTEC took to the stage in order to perform for staff, fellow pupils and parents. Only two pupils take the BTEC, and so the pressure was on for the musicians to present an engaging concert to a packed audience! The concert was also assessed and will form a part of their grade, so the students really gave it their all.

Arranged by Mr Byron Ward who teaches the subject, the BTEC concert took place in the Lecture Theatre to a big crowd. Year 13 pupils Marcus Bagshawe and Quin Wagner-Piggott undertook their final Year 13 Solo Music Recital as part of their course. An audience of friends and family enjoyed the 30-minute recital, which covered a varied range of musical elements. Quin and Marcus between them performed Blues Rock, Funk, Jazz, Folk and Classical Guitar, taking the opportunity to showcase their talents with a challenging repertoire.

Mr Ward commented: ‘both pupils are a grade 8 standard on their instruments, and both performed beautifully. They are well on target for achieving a Distinction in the BTEC overall, which would be very well deserved!’
