Activities Hit the Target
Co-Curricular

Co-curricular activities are an important part of the timetable for all year groups. During the spring term, the pupils have been undertaking a myriad of activities, including cookery, archery and kayaking. Assistant Head Co-Curricular Mr Alex Hunt provides the following report on the exciting activities at which the Year 9s have been trying their hand:

‘Year 9 pupils have been taking advantage of the early spring sun, taking part in a myriad of activities as part of their Outdoor Activity programme. Each Monday, during the spring and summer term, pupils rotate around a carousel of different and exciting activities. The offering includes air rifle shooting, climbing, navigation skills, camp craft, teamwork, cooking, first aid and canoeing. These activities allow the boys to learn new skills and hopefully spark an interest in something new, possibly fostering an interest in future involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme, or the CCF. The sessions will also help to prepare the boys for the activity week coming up in the summer term, which will see groups of pupils working in small groups to navigate to Marlow, setting up camp for the night, cooking dinner and then hiking home, which will be a truly character-building experience.

Lower School boys have also been engaging in a variety of activities; the most popular of these being cooking! Recently, the boys made sushi. They have been cooking all term with Smart Raspberry cooking school, who have been teaching the pupils about the important of being able to cook for themselves and others. Other aims have been to instil an understanding of nutrition and basic kitchen skills and, hopefully, to foster an ongoing interest in the food they eat. Each week the boys have prepared different meals from fresh ingredients to take home.’
