The Medical Wing is open from 7.45M to 5.30PM from Monday to Friday and is fully staffed during opening hours.
There are nurses in attendance in the 'Med Wing' during rugby match days in the Autumn Term, including on Saturday mornings.
In the first instance a pupil will normally seek assistance from their House Pastoral Leader (formerly Matron) during the day. Pupils referred to the Med Wing will be treated as required. There are five areas where an unwell pupil may rest, including one single room for a pupil that may need to be isolated or in need of a quiet environment.
After 5.30pm, pupils will seek help from house staff and 111 will be contacted if required. In the case of an emergency, the pupil will be taken to A&E at the Royal Berks Hospital.
In the event of a pupil being too unwell to be at the College, parents or guardians will be contacted to arrange to collection. Please note that any pupil with diarrhoea and/or vomiting will have to go home for 48 hours (about two days) after the last episode.
A member of the Med Wing team will contact parents to update parents and or guardians, when necessary. If a pupil needs to be taken to A&E, we will liaise with parents regarding their time of arrival to take over care of their child.
GP for Boarding Pupils
Full and weekly boarders registered with the school GP may be seen at one of the bi-weekly clinics held in the Med Wing on a Tuesday and Friday morning at 08.00. The Hart Surgery in Henley-on-Thames is where our school GP is based. Should a pupil prefer to see a female GP, arrangements can be put in place to facilitate this. Boarding pupils will have a new patient medical with the GP and nurse during their first term.
The GP contact details are: The Hart Surgery, York Road, Henley-on-Thames, RG9 2DR, telephone number: 01491 843200 Our named GP is Dr Mark Bish.
Physiotherapy and Graduated Return to Sport
If a pupil requires physiotherapy, they can either be referred to a physio of your choice or to Physiolistic, a local physiotherapy company based at Henley Rugby Club, which keeps propriety appointments for Shiplake pupils. Please be aware there are long waiting lists for NHS physio referrals.
