Tri Henley Open Water Triathlon
On Sunday 3 June Tri-Henley Triathlon Club is holding its inaugural Junior Triathlon here at Shiplake College. The event is going to be a key event in the South Central Super Series and is supported by British Triathlon. The event is open to girls and boys from 7 – 16 years of age with the expectation that it will attract around 200 competitors (we already have 120 signed up!). An open water swim in the Thames followed by a cycle and run on the riverside pitches will challenge all competitors. The club is very grateful to Shiplake College and Shiplake Farm as without their support we would not be able to run such an exciting event.
Tri Henley Triathlon Club trains twice a week, once here at Shiplake College on Thursday evenings (6:30-8:00) and on Wednesdays at Henley Leisure Centre pool (7:15-8:00). Our membership consists of boys and girls from Henley and the surrounding areas. We welcome juniors from the spring of Year 6, through to the end of secondary school. Our members are of a range of abilities; we cater for those who are very serious about the sport and will qualify for the inter-regional championships at the end of the season as well as youngsters who have taken up triathlon for fun, exercise and to make new friends.
Our head coach is Great Britain triathlete and professional individual coach Sophie Whitworth. Sophie is supported by a team of her professional coaching contacts, plus parents of our junior members who have qualified as Level 1 and Level 2 triathlon coaches.
