While the pupils are away, the workmen will play... During the half term, the grounds and buildings of Shiplake College had a small amount of renovation.
In readiness for another term of boys bustling around, the main path leading to the School’s front office has been repaved. The paving slabs that were removed were largely cracked, chipped and stained by several years of wear. The path starts at the area outside the front of the Skipwith building and forks off in three separate paths. One leads to the front office, one leads to the orchard and the other leads to the classroom space in the Everett Building.
However, it isn’t just the aesthetics of the College that have been improved. The Cricket nets have been upgraded as most of the old carpets were worn, damaged and stained. To make sure we are ready for the season ahead, these carpets have been removed and replaced with new and improved turfs and new nets will be erected closer to the cricket season. The eight Rugby pitches at Shiplake have also been maintained by the spreading of 150 tons of sand. This is a common practice in pitch maintenance and makes the soil more receptive for competitive sport.
