The Shiplake Theology and Philosophy Society, or Think Tank as it is otherwise known, is having its first meeting this afternoon, and to kick things off, they will be enjoying a pizza and film night.
The society, chaired by Emily Booth and Andrei Woodlock, aims to allow students in Years 10-13, who have opted for the subject at either GCSE or A Level, to engage with Philosophy and Religious studies beyond the rigours of syllabus. With no exam to work for and no prep to do, members of Think Tank can take time to consider the issues and ideas we'll be discussing in an open and friendly forum. Ultimately, Think Tank is an academic society designed to stretch, challenge, and entertain.
Staff and student presentations, as well as selected films and episodes provide the stimulus points, with upcoming topics 'The Da Vinci Code: fact or fiction' and 'Can Bruce Banner be blamed for the Hulk's havoc?' sure to generate lively and insightful ideas.
Think Tank meets every other Thursday afternoon at 4.45pm in the Lecture Theatre. To join, contact Head of Religious Studies and Philosophy Mr Woolner. ([email protected])
