At the end of the Summer Term, we said goodbye to a number of teaching and support staff. We are sorry to see them go, but wish them all the very best for the future. They are now all members of the Old Viking Society and we look forward to hearing all about how they are getting on soon.

Staff Leavers Summer 2020

Mr Richard Ebbage

We say a fond farewell to Assistant Head, Academic, Mr Ebbage who leaves Shiplake after seven years. He started back then as Head of Psychology, and during his time at the College, he was also Assistant Housemaster for Burr and Head of Football. Mr Ebbage has been appointed as Deputy Head, Academic at Crosfields School as they expand from a prep to a senior school. His lasting memory of Shiplake will be ‘the genuine sense of warmth and community felt across staff, students, and parents.’

Mr Mark Griffiths

Director of Sport, Mr Griffiths is leaving Shiplake after two years in the role. He said: "I am not exactly sure where I am heading next but I am sure it will be an exciting new adventure!”

Mr Griffiths will miss the amazing people, both staff and students and a truly beautiful setting.

Mr David Sharkey

After six years at Shiplake, we wave goodbye to Head of English Mr Sharkey - the first Irish person to have held this role at the College. He moves on to teach English at Hampton School. He will miss ‘touch-rugby and drinks with colleagues on a Friday evening in the summer term.’

Mr Adam Dimmick

Head of Computing Mr Dimmick moves on to Reading School in September to be their Director of Digital Learning. Mr Dimmick started his teaching career at Shiplake and said: 'I will miss you all, thank you for all of the opportunities.'

Mr Luke Wilson

After three years as Teacher of Theology and Philosophy, Skipwith Deputy Housemaster and Boarding Activities Coordinator, Mr Wilson is moving on to a new role at Radley College. He said: “Shiplake has offered me lots of opportunities and it is hard to believe it has only been three years. I have loved my time in Skipwith, coaching rowing, getting to know the boarders and teaching, of course.'

Mr Jonty Slade

Goodbye to Mr Slade after two years as the College’s Music Administator, Lower School Music Teacher and Flute Teacher. Mr Slade will be devoting more time to his performing career as a flautist and baroque flautist as well as his current roles as a visiting flute teacher at Oundle School and Oxford High School. Mr Slade will miss ‘the flapjacks, the timetables and the brilliant colleagues!’

Mr Jasper Elliott

The Music Department also says goodbye to Graduate Assistant in Music, Mr Elliott. He will be using everything he has learnt at Shiplake to complete a PGCE at The University of Reading. His fondest memory at Shiplake was ‘watching all the hard work of the winter term come to fruition at the Winter Concert.’

Mrs Rebecca Goulden

Mrs Goulden has finished her temporary contract as an Art Teacher and is looking forward to returning to being a full time mum and spending time with her family, attending school plays and sporting fixtures. She takes with her many memories of Shiplake, but most of all ‘the warm welcome and support from all staff and the camaraderie within the art department. The art department is a great environment to work in, but most of all, the students are incredible. So polite, focussed and keen to learn. I have been blown away by the talent and creative artwork which has been produced this past year. Long may it continue.’

Mrs Moya Flynn

After eight and a half years as Shiplake's HR Manager, Mrs Flynn is moving onto Pipers Corner as their Head of HR. One of her best memories of Shiplake was the time she organised a ‘lunch pad session’ with Commander Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian Astronaut. She had an amazing response from the pupils, with one who said it was his best day at Shiplake!

We also say farewell to...

Mr Toby Graham, Lower School Graduate Assistant and Mrs Carol Harrison, Modern Foreign Languages Teacher who is retiring, but will still be living onsite in Burr with her husband, Mr Diez-Urkidi.
