Seven teams of Old Vikings took part in this year’s OVS Golf Day, held once again at Badgemore Park, Henley-on-Thames.
The players, ranging from 1978 leavers to those from 2020, enjoyed a bacon bap before teeing off and soon after the sun appeared to help make for a wonderful afternoon of light-hearted competitive golf!
Former staff member Peter Webb hosted the presentation of awards afterwards. Longest Drive went to Tom Harman (15W) and Nearest the Pin went to Charlie Phillips (14B). The third highest Stableford score went to Headmaster Tryone Howe, second to Julian Kunkler (06W) and first place to Andrew Cadell (84E). Finally, third place went to Team Dempster which included James Dempster (12S), Zac Bigley (12W), Peter Webb and Seamus Jeffs. Second place went to Team Cadell which included Andrew Cadell (84E), Simon James (85B), Charlie Taylor (86W) and Robin Langrishe (80B). The winners of this year’s OVS Golf Day went to Team Kunkler which included Julian Kunkler (06W), Alex Woolnough (06B), Graham Blyth (78E) and his daughter Charlotte Blyth.
Thank you to Peter Webb for organising the event, to Seamus Jeffs for calculating the scores, to Badgemore Park for their hospitality and to the Old Viking Society for subsidising each place.
Overall it was a hugely successful day and to quote one of the Old Vikings: “Brilliant day - fantastically organised - excellent company - surprisingly good weather”.
We are looking forward to next year’s event already and it is hoped that enough teams will enter to be able to arrange a shot-gun start, so keep an eye out for when the date is set and bookings are open.
