Last week saw the long-awaited return of our Lynch Island Adventures! Last occurring in 2019, this was the first time since before Covid that our Year 9 pupils spent a night under the stars on Shiplake College’s very own island – The Lynch.
As part of their introduction to Shiplake College, it is traditional for all Year 9s, in house groupings, to spend a night on The Lynch. A short boat ride away from the College, The Lynch is situated in the middle of the Thames. This fun - and sometimes challenging - activity facilitates bonding between the boys and helps the new starters in particular settle into their year group. After a four-year hiatus, we’re delighted to see the return of this wonderful tradition.
DofE Manager and Head of Outdoor Education, Mr Macpherson, said:
"The boys, in their pairs, made basic shelters to sleep under using limited resources supplied by the College. Some were better than others and whether by accident or design, some boys spent the night looking up at the stars. Luckily, we were blessed with glorious weather for the entire week which made the whole experience that much better.
This is something our boys always fondly look back on even if they were a little tired the following morning, and so we are glad to see its return to our programme.
Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to the staff who supported the event."
