On Friday 7 June, we welcomed 14 teams from 9 different primary schools from the local area for a Kwik Cricket Festival! Playing across 7 pitches on both Front Field and New Field, over 110 children enjoyed a morning of cricket in some rare June sunshine.
The 14 teams involved were split across our two fields and into three divisions. Each team played at least three matches which included a single batting innings consisting of 9 overs – the 9th over acting as a ‘Super 9th Over’ where all runs within were doubled! The team batting started with a score of 100 runs and each time a batter was dismissed, five runs were deducted. Normal scoring applied with runs and 4s and 6s of which there were many in addition to some spectacular catches!

Speaking after the event, Director of Cricket Mr Ellison said:
‘We were delighted to welcome a record number of teams, children, staff and supporters to Shiplake College for our 15th annual Primary Schools’ Kwik Cricket Festival. It was lovely to see some new schools taking part this year as well as welcome back familiar faces. Teams from Badgemore, Danesfield, The Heights, Sacred Heart, Shiplake, Sonning Common, Trinity, Herries, and St Martin’s all took part.
In glorious sunshine, our grounds looked a picture with so many boys and girls enjoying their morning of cricket at the College. This was an inclusive festival with no leagues or knock outs - just lots of skills, talent, and fun on display and there were many big hits, boundaries, wickets, learning and enjoyment for all.
Thank you to our amazing grounds team for their work in preparing the seven pitches. Thank you also to all the school staff and to the Year 12 Sports Leadership pupils for helping out on the day, as well as to Invesco for sponsoring the medals for each child.’
