Earlier in the Autumn Term, our Navy, Army and RAF cadets took part in the annual CCF Field Day.

Shiplake College is one of nearly 400 Schools in the country, that offers young people a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities. CCF stands for Combined Cadet Force, and is built on educational partnerships with the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force, among other British institutions. Below is the report, provided by Lt. R. Johnston:

CCF Army Field Day, 17 October 2018

The CCF Army field day in October is always a great opportunity to give new cadets their first experience for field training and also allow our recently promoted senior cadets the opportunity to lead. The field day was split into different stances, covering a range of basic and more advanced aspects of the curriculum.

Run by Lt Johnston and ably assisted by CFAV Jenkins and CFAV Hearn, cadets covered topics such as personal camouflage and concealment, moving with and without weapons and duties of a sentry. Cadets competed in all stances and were measured on competency and teamwork. The training culminated in a 3km team run and shoot which tested the grit and determination of even our most dedicated cadets.

The new "Arney" Challenge, named after our recently departed Major Arney, was this year won by Section 1, Charlie Team; comprising of Cdt C Sgt Firth, Cdt L/Cpl Morrisey and Cdt L/Cpl Martin. This year’s field day will form the first stage of their training and progression and allow for a greater experience on the next March field day and looking further ahead to camp in the summer.

Cadets will be competing soon at Chilcombe Ranges in order to ascertain who our new Section Shooting Champion is.
