CCF Co-Curricular

The Navy discipline of the CCF visit the Sailing Centre at the Sonning Eye on Tuesday afternoons, as part of their co-curricular programme. Learning to sail and how to be safe on and around the water is a key element of being a Navy cadet, and the sessions are hotly anticipated. However, the recent turbulent weather has somewhat put a damper on the activity, with conditions being too windy to go out on the water. However, the group had a brilliant way to make the most of the weather…

Having arrived at the Sonning Eye lake on Tuesday 6 June, the CCF Navy cadets were looking forward to using the Topper and Pico sailing boats. The windy weather provided the perfect conditions to put the land yacht through its paces. All the skills that had been learnt out on the water were tested, with pupils practising handling. The land yacht, while relatively simple in production and design, can achieve high speeds if wind and skills permit – and the group had a lot of fun ‘sailing’ on land!
