The Navy discipline of the CCF visit the Sailing Centre at the Sonning Eye on Tuesday afternoons, as part of their co-curricular programme. Learning to sail and how to be safe on and around the water is a key element of being a Navy cadet, and the sessions are hotly anticipated. Having arrived at the Sonning Eye lake on Tuesday 6 June, the CCF Navy cadets were looking forward to using the Topper and Pico sailing boats. The windy weather provided the perfect conditions to put the land yacht through its paces. All the skills that had been learnt out on the water were tested, with pupils practising handling. The land yacht, while relatively simple in production and design, can achieve high speeds if wind and skills permit – and the group had a lot of fun ‘sailing’ on land!
