Thursday 29 November saw the largest gathering of The Old Vikings this year, as former pupils and staff from across the decades, along with some of our current staff, got together at our annual London drinks reunion.
Representatives spanning over five decades filled the upstairs function room at the Theodore Bullfrog Pub in Charing Cross, with the first drink courtesy of the OVS. There were groups of 1988 leavers and 2008 leavers who met up to celebrate their 30 and 10 year anniversaries, respectively, and leavers as recent as 2018 also came along to reconnect with friends.
Chairman of the Old Viking Society, Ben Fitzwilliams, welcomed everyone and new committee members Chris Baverstock, Harry Engelen and Catherine Brazil were officially welcomed on to the committee. Headmaster Gregg Davies then took the floor and spoke at what would be his last London reunion before he leaves Shiplake in June and becomes an Old Viking himself! Mr Davies thanked the Society for all their support over the last 14 years and said he hopes they will continue to support his successor in the same way.
Deputy Head Pastoral, Mr Nick Brown, who has taught at Shiplake for 19 years, said, ‘It really was a fantastic evening with a warm, happy atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with so many former pupils - it’s great to hear what they have gone on to achieve.’
