Sports Report

With the cold and icy weather wreaking havoc on our rugby matches, which included the hotly anticipated Friday Night Lights fixture against Pangbourne College, this week's Sports Report features a sole match report from our girls' 1st XI ISFA Cup fixture against Haileybury. Despite this being the girls' first fixture of the year, in comparison to their opponents who were playing their 12th, the team showed great resolve and remained in high spirits throughout.

Girls' 1st XI Football vs Haileybury

On Tuesday (6 December) afternoon, the Shiplake girls' football team assembled on Memorial Field to play their first football match of the season against Haileybury in the ISFA Cup. The match started well and all of the girls got involved, both from the side-line and on the pitch. After Haileybury scored their first goal from a stunning free-kick, Shiplake reset and made a quick attack with L Schoenmakers playing a fantastic pass to T Firth, allowing them to level the score at 1-1. Thanks to great defending from G Bradbury, A Baiden and extraordinary goalkeeping skills from R Allen, the girls managed to keep it even at half time and not concede another goal.

After half-time, Haileybury managed to score two more quick goals making the score 3-1. The defence succeeded in stopping many more goals in the second half and C Wapshare made some great runs down the pitch; her chance of scoring being cut short by the opposition's amazing defence. The final score was 6-1 to Haileybury.

Well done to all of the girls. Player of the match was given to R Allen, players' player was awarded to L Schoenmakers ,and coach's player was G Bradbury.
