This week's Sports Report features the start of the netball season for our U18 girls who took on The Oratory and Reading Blue Coat in torrential rain! Meanwhile, our boys' 1st XI hockey team faced The Windsor Boys' School' and our junior football sides had a round of midweek matches. The block football fixtures against Reading Blue Coat due to take place on Saturday were cancelled due to waterlogged pitches at both schools.

U12 5-A-Side Football Tournament at Bulmershe School

Every Year 7 pupil played in the tournament at Bulmershe School at Goals on Tuesday 10 January with five teams being selected. After just one training session, it had very much an early season feel, but there was some great football on display. All teams played four matches and recorded plenty of wins, bags of goals and a few things to work on. Most importantly everyone had a great deal of fun and are eager to get going with the season.

U18B vs The Oratory

On Wednesday 11 January, the Shiplake Netball B team not only completed their first match of the season, but also came out with a victory. The team started very strongly, not only competing against The Oratory’s B team, but against also the rainy weather. Shiplake started with the centre pass which was followed by two goals being scored by S Reid and with quick passes down the court from S Goggins, who was awarded Coach’s Player of the Match. P Sanderson worked well in the Shiplake attacking end which allowed for possession to be kept in Shiplake's quarter.

The second quarter was also very strong by Shiplake, with strong defence from L Stokes and H Boddy, which allowed for Shiplake to dominate another quarter with goals being scored by L Schoenmakers. The B team also shined in the third quarter with R Pendlebury weaving through defenders and passing well to A Timms, which allowed Shiplake to gain another goal. Unfortunately, given the weather, the game was stopped after the third quarter which ended the game with a score of 6-4 to Shiplake. Player of the Match went to I Wood and Players' Player went to L Stokes. What a great start to the season!

U18C vs Reading Blue Coat

In rainy weather conditions, Shiplake’s C team had a great first match of the season against Reading Blue Coat’s C Team. Shiplake started strong with great passes between E Bell and D Knight who were constantly on the move. However, Shiplake ended the first quarter 2-0 down  to Blue Coat.

After a brief team talk, the girls were fuelled and ready to go, displaying excellent communication throughout. Throughout the second half, there was excellent gameplay on show from R Acton as well as L Payne (who was chosen as Player of the Match). As weather conditions worsened, the girls still held a very strong positive attitude towards the game and showed great sportsmanship. At the beginning of the third quarter, the score was 6-0 to RBC, until J Pallett scored an excellent goal, to finish the match with a score of 6-1. Overall, the girls displayed excellent teamwork and showed great enthusiasm throughout the game.
