Football

Boys’ 1st XI vs St Paul’s School

Shiplake started off strongly in their first match of the season against a St Paul's side that had already played multiple games since September. The side dominated with chances from A Moth and A Siviter. However, in the first 20 minutes, both our captain J Cooper and football scholar A Siviter went off injured. We went in at half time 1-0 down. The game was there for the taking in the second half and a fantastic press from C Kerrison and A Moth forced a mistake that allowed the latter to slot it away into an empty net. However, Shiplake’s energy waned being two men down and St Paul's went on to take the win 2-1.

Player of the Match went to A Mullens for a fantastic debut for the 1st XI.
Coach: Mr B Claridge

Girls’ 1st XI vs St Clare’s School

On Friday afternoon, the Shiplake girls' 1st XI football team played their first fixture of the season against St Clare's Oxford in the ISFA Cup. Despite only a couple of training sessions prior to the match, Shiplake entered the game with high spirits and determination to give the opposition a challenge. The match started strong with the girls going straight in for the attack, however St Clare's talented defence meant Shiplake struggled to get a goal. The highly skilled opposition came up against our defence: A Flower, G Weedon, E Morris and S Pendlebury, who were crucial in limiting the amount of goals St Clare's scored; alongside the work of goalkeeper M Spooner. Despite the majority of play being in Shiplake's defensive area, all Shiplake girls remained eager to push on and work towards getting Shiplake a goal. The match concluded on an 8-0 defeat, however the girls remained positive and are looking forward to our next match.

Girls' U18A vs Reddam House

On Wednesday 11 October, the Shiplake girls' A team went to play our league match against Reddam House. The game started off close with Reddam scoring the first goal. However, Shiplake were quick to recover with D Knight, playing her debut match, scoring an amazing first goal for the team. Half-time came and the score was 2-1 to Reddam.

In the second half, Shiplake went in with our heads held high however unfortunately, ended up losing the game 4-1. Congratulations to Player of the Match which went to O Parkin, Players’ Player which went to O Clarke, and Coaches’ Player which went to S Pendlebury. Well played everyone.

Girls' U18B vs Leighton Park

On Wednesday 11 October, our girls’ U18B team played against Leighton Park B team. The first pushback went to Leighton Park who subsequently scored. Shiplake fought back strongly with a pushback from E Flower getting the ball up the pitch, but after several turnovers and great attacking and defending, the opposition managed to score a second goal from a short corner.

The team fought back hard to get into the attacking quarter getting several attempted shots on goal. Despite the 0-3 scoreline, Shiplake went into the second half strongly, working extremely well together and keeping the ball in the attacking half for the majority of the time. However, Leighton Park did manage to score another goal. The final score was 0-4. Player of the Match went to G Wyndham-Smith and Players’ Player went to I Davenport-Thomas. M Waller played extremely well in defence as well as R Dewar and F Short in attack.

Girls' U12s vs Leighton Park School

On Wednesday 11 October, the junior girls' hockey teams played a great match against Leighton Park School. We all participated and when we were off, we were all cheering for each other and supporting our friends. In the first quarter, we scored a great goal from D Crisford, assisted by T Lawrence. In the last quarter, our team was determined to gain another goal but in the last minute, Leighton Park scored a brilliant goal making the final score 1-1. Leighton Park chose A May from Shiplake as the Player of the Match. It was a really fun match for all of us and we can’t wait until the next one.
