On Saturday 11 October, a number of Shiplake crews raced at Reading Small Boats Head. Taking into
account that they were racing in senior men’s events, the boys returned with some
very pleasing results.
Tim Waller, Phillip Green, Andrew Turnhill and Henry Edwards raced in the IM1 quad sculls event. The crew had an impressive scull not only winning the category but also posting the fastest time of the whole day ahead of 390 other boats.
Matthew Aldridge, Freddie Brady, Joshua
Cuffe and Mathew Brown raced for the first time this year, competing in Men’s
Novice quad sculls. This is a new and
relatively inexperienced crew so they went out to race for fun and see what
they could achieve. The crew came off the water happy and pleased with their
race, believing it was the best they had rowed together. This was confirmed by
the result they achieved coming in 2nd position out of 4 novice quads.
Racing in IM3 double sculls, came the
crews of Seb Newman and Henry Blois-Brooke; and Harry and Tom Berkley. Both
crews posted impressive times
with the Newman, Blois-Brooke crew coming out on top winning the event ahead of
the Berkley's by 12 seconds who came in a creditable 2nd place.
Director of Rowing David Currie said: “Congratulations to all the boys for a fantastic afternoon of racing. This race concluded the
1st half of term's events and now the Boat Club looks forward to
competing over the pond on our Half Term tour to the USA. We will be
competing at the Head of the Charles and the Head of
the Schuylkill Regattas.”
