With the boys’ rugby union and girls’ hockey seasons reaching their conclusions, our teams gathered for their respective awards presentations to mark and celebrate the end of the seasons.

For our senior pupils, players and coaches gathered on Saturday 9 December for a black-tie event at Reading Rugby Club, consisting of dinner and an awards ceremony. The evening gave the senior teams a chance to look back at the season, and to celebrate the efforts of coaches and staff, as well as individual players who had excelled throughout the season.

The junior teams held their awards ceremonies separately in the final week of the term and a full list of all the awards for each team can be found below.

There were a number of awards on offer which included the following:

  • Player of the Season - Awarded by the coaches to the outstanding contributor in their team. The players' contribution during matches and training will have been exemplary and they have been a role model to their peers.
  • Players’ Player of the Season - Vote by the players for the player they feel deserves recognition for their efforts throughout the season.
  • Most Improved Player – This player has worked hard to improve their rugby. They have been ‘sponge-like' at training and have they translated this into improved performance during matches.
  • Clubman of the Year - Awarded to the player who may not necessarily be the best performer, but they love all things Shiplake rugby. They absorb everything at training, give their all for their team in whatever role they play, may go the extra mile to help tidy kit or run errands. They have embraced everything we have tried to do this year with a positive attitude.
  • Colours - Awarded to those who have made a significant contribution towards their respective ‘A’ team with consistent evidence of an outstanding attitude towards performances and training throughout the season.
  • Senior Blazers – For outstanding achievement, contribution and attitude throughout the season along with multiple seasons of integral contribution to the 1st XV.
  • Honour Caps - Awarded to any Year 13 player who makes five or more appearances for the 1st XV in their Year 13 season.
