On Saturday 17 February, Director of Rowing Mr Dave Currie accompanied four pupils to Lincolnshire where they competed to qualify for the Junior rowing team representing Great Britain.

Mr Currie took two boys, Dom Brown and Oli Newton, and two girls, Liv Morgan and Molly Sharman, to the trials held in Boston, Lincolnshire. This was the second trial after the first early assessment held in November last year. Successful candidates will be invited to the third trials, held in the Spring, which take place in Nottingham at the end of March.

The trial was a long distance time trial held over five kilometres. Shiplake College’s notable performance came from Oli Newton and Dom Brown in the pairs, who finished ninth out of 39 of the best pairs in the country.

After the event, Director of Rowing Dave Currie said:

'We hope that this performance should be enough to see the boys selected for Spring trials.'

Liv Morgan, who was paired with a girl from The Latymer School, finished seventh out of 11 pairs and Molly Sharman finished eighth out of 11 pairs with her partner from St Andrews.

All rowers conducted themselves impeccably over the weekend and the outcome of the trials will soon indicate whether or not our pupils will advance to the next stage of the challenging trials.
