
Five Shiplake College pupils were amongst the 33 athletes selected to represent Great Britain at the Munich International Junior Regatta on 4-5 May. In addition, Shiplake’s Director of Rowing Dave Currie was once again asked to be part of the GB coaching team. A loyal band of parents and members of the Shiplake College Boat Club Supporters’ Association travelled to the Olympic Regatta Course to support the young British rowers compete on the international stage against over participants from over 10 countries..
The racing was split over two days, and pupils from the College won medals on both. Year 12 pupils S. Hjortland-Marks, and cox J. Kirby took home the gold after an impressive performance in the Junior Men’s 8, while D. Brown received a bronze medal in the Coxless 4. O. Morgan, received a silver medal for her efforts in the Junior Women's Double.
The College also dominated Sunday’s races, as next year’s Head of College R. Ash and D. Brown, again coxed by J. Kirby, won the silver medal in the Junior Men’s 8. Later in the afternoon, S. Hjortland-Marks raced for a silver in the Coxless Junior Men’s 4.
Mr Currie said: ‘This is a great international racing experience for Liv and the boys. A massive well done to our pupils, who are bringing home eight medals between them!’
