Current and former Shiplake rowers have been selected for international representation this summer, at the U19 and U23 World Championships, the Coupe de la Jeunesse and the Home International Rowing Regatta.

Megan Hadfield (22W) represented her home country Wales in the Home International Rowing Regatta in London last weekend, taking part in the Junior Single Sculls (bronze), the Junior Coxless Pair (silver), the Junior Quad Sprint (bronze) and the Junior Quad (fourth) races. The competition introduced the 500m sprint races alongside the traditional 2,000m races this year.

Jake Birch (22B) and Matt Johnston (22E) were both chosen for the Junior Men’s Eight at the U19 World Championships in Varese, Italy taking place from 27-31 July, with Director of Rowing Dave Currie coaching the Junior U19 Men’s Four and Assistant Director of Rowing Dan Safdari coaching the Junior U19 Women’s Four. The U19 World Championships sees the best young rowers from all around the world take part. Jake and Matt will race in the Junior Men’s Eight Heat 1 on Thursday 28 July at 9.20am (BST), with the repechage race at 8.40am on Friday 29 July, the B final at 10.30am and A final at 1.55pm on Sunday 31 July. Old Viking Viktor Schoenwandt, who did a year's placement with us when in Year 10 during 2019-2020, has been selected to represent Germany in the U19 Men's Four, racing against Mr Currie's GB crew.

Former Deputy Head of College and Old Viking Sophia Hahn (19B) has also been selected to represent the USA in the U23 Women’s Eight event. Her crew came first in their Heat event on Tuesday 26 July, taking her to the A Final at 4.47pm on Saturday 30 July.

Seric Critchley (Year 12), Freddie Middleton (Year 12) and Ed Dallas (22O) have all been selected to represent Great Britain at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, which takes place in Castrelo de Mino in Spain from 5 to 7 August. The competition is an international rowing regatta for juniors from 16 member countries. Seric will be racing in the Men’s Coxless Four with Freddie and Ed in the Men’s Eight.
