With the wet weather postponing or cancelling many tennis and cricket matches, a few cricket teams were lucky enough to be able to play their opposition.

1st XI Cricket v South Oxfordshire Amateurs

The first team came back from the half term looking to continue their impressive form against South Oxfordshire Amateurs. Despite a few boys away due to an exam, Shiplake started positively, restricting SOA to 30-5 with wickets from C Creighton (4) and M Haynes (1). SOA regrouped and thanks to a fantastic 108 from their number 5, they set a rather challenging score of 174-8 before declaring. A wicket each for Lee and Stone restricted SOA in the later part of the innings.

Following on after an even first half of the game, 1st XI Captain M Dalrymple finished his history exam in perfect time to open the batting for Shiplake, though no real impact was made by the skipper as his middle stump went flying out the group after scoring only 6 runs. E Lee (22) provided a solid start with J Angell (45) providing the bulk of the runs as the total lowered. As the clock hit 5.45pm, 20 overs was all that remained in the day. C Creighton (43) joined Angell to put Shiplake into a winning position with only a few overs to go. While they both departed for their respected scores, valuable contributions from T Gorringe (21 no) and C Theodorou (15 no) helped Shiplake cross the line with 10 balls to spare.

U14B Cricket v Reading School

The Shiplake College U14B cricket team took to the field against Reading School on Wednesday 5 June. Shiplake bowled first and Reading scored steadily without loss until the seventh over when M Grundy took the first wicket. Reading continued to score well but the wickets fell at a much higher rate, thanks to the bowling of F Shorten, C Fitzsimons and A Subramaninan. Reading completed their innings with a score of 107-9

The Shiplake innings started slowly, with wickets falling as fast as the run rate and at one point, the team were 5-5 after five overs. Thankfully, the batting of M Grundy helped to stabilise things and he was ably assisted by M Hepburn. Unfortunately, Shiplake were not able to meet Reading's total and the team were bowled out for 67 runs. Despite a few setbacks, the team bowled and fielded well and they look forward to their next game against St George's College, Weybridge this coming Saturday.

Player of the match was awarded to M Grundy.
