On June 2, Welsh House hosted a charity BBQ to raise money for GAP Africa. The event was organised by Housemaster, Mr Rose and all the boys in Welsh House. The goal for the evening was to raise enough money to fund the cost of a child in Kenya’s school fees for a year.

Throughout the day pupils prepared the Welsh House garden. They even set up a VIP area which included a personal butler in a roped off section with comfy sofas!

Over the course of the evening, around 50 parents were treated to a delicious BBQ cooked and served by the boys with all the meat kindly donated by the school caterers, Thomas Franks. A selection of great salads were prepared by Mr Rose's wife, Zoe with help from L Batty, J Burgess, R Humphris and F Diver. Behind the bar was F Hewitt, who ensured parents drinks were well and truly topped up!

The entertainment for the evening included a range of different games organised by F Brown, M McClaren Clark and D Beard, as well as live music from C Thomas, E Booth, J Underwood, B Howard-Jones and H Finnegan. There was also a DJ set by W Kayll.

The evening finished with an enjoyable auction and raffle organised by A Britten and D Deakin. The raffle prizes included champagne, a bluetooth speaker and a £100 National Theatre voucher. England rugby tickets, Arsenal football tickets, a signed picture of legendary West Indian cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers, Rugfest tickets and a haunch of venison were amongst the auction prizes.

Head of Welsh house for next year, B Howard-Jones said: “The evening was a tremendous success and we managed to raise over £1000 which was such an achievement, especially as this was well above our target!”
