Trips & Visits Sport

During the Christmas holidays, 27 students and four members of staff travelled to La Plagne in the French Alps for a week of skiing.

Mr Yona Diez-Urkidi, Burr Housemaster and Modern Foreign Languages Teacher co-ordinated the trip. Here is his report of a ‘great’ week:

“After talking to several students and having reflected over the Christmas break, I would like to start at the end by saying, what a great trip!

“We set off from Shiplake early on a cold December morning to fly to Lyon. Although It took us a while to get to La Plagne, it was an easy and comfortable trip where we enjoyed lovely views of the countryside.

“When we arrived at the hostel, there was plenty of snow and the boys soon started to enjoy it; by organising snowball fights. Everything was great, the hostel was brilliant with good food, and was truly ski-in/ski-out, giving us access to a huge ski area and great snow.

“All boys from beginner level upwards took part in ski school during the week and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had very professional and nice instructors and lots of fun skiing and taking part in the activities.

“The students really relished the opportunity they were given to be responsible and independent too.

“Going bowling on one of the evenings was a highlight for me. I really enjoyed seeing the students all singing while waiting for the bus to go back to the hostel.

“To sum up, it was a great skiing trip and fantastic French experience for the boys. Definitely a trip to repeat!

“A big thank you to Mr Walter, Mr Geyton and Mr Dix for being part of the trip and their help and support throughout the week.”
