Budding Picassos and David Baileys set to work over the Christmas holidays to produce their masterpieces for Shiplake’s Junior Art and Photography Competition, with the winners announced last Monday at Whole School Assembly.
The competition was the brainchild of Year 9 pupil and art scholar, Monty Walker, who wanted to encourage others to share in his love of art and showcase their talents.
Pupils from Years 7-10 were invited to submit entries, with the winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes all receiving a certificate and set of watercolours. The 1st place winner also received a sketch book.
And the winners were…

Addressing all pupils in the assembly, Monty said: “The aim of the art competition was to encourage pupils to have a go and push them to get in touch with their artistic creativity.
“The art department has been very pleased with the results and we are looking forward to doing something like this again.
“Thank you to all that entered and next time everyone should have a go.”
Mr James Ramsey, Head of Art, said: “The standard was great and it is clear there are some very good artists coming up through the school.
“The Year 7 postcards were especially exciting to look at as there was so much variety in the interpretation of the theme.
“The winners in each category thoroughly deserved their awards but every entry deserves to be seen and all of the pieces will be on display in the school.
The winning entries are currently on display in the Skipwith entrance for all to see.
