After the disappointment from our rowers that there would be no National Schools' Regatta (NSR) this year, the Shiplake College Boat Club supporters organised a virtual #NotNSR event for the Boat Club Community.
The event included some physical challenges and some culinary delights in the form of The Great Boatish Bake-Off (with the latter being the most competitive aspect of the event!) and took place on 23 and 24 May, when our rowers would have been at the National Schools' Regatta at Eton Dorney.
Racing included a family running relay over the international rowing race distance of 2km, a family 2km relay on the ergo and a boat club regatta for 25 pupil rowers in teams of four, raced on the ergo. The baking competition was hotly contested with some amazing cakes being made by lots of families.
There was also two fun puzzles to 'Meet the VIII' - with the challenge people to match the baby photo and statements with the 1st VIII rower or coach.
And the winners and runners up were:
- 2km Running Relay - The Settle Family
- 2km Ergo Relay - The Middleton Family
- Boat Club Regatta in teams of 4 raced on the ergo - Hillier, Houghton, Byca and Pogmore
- Star Baker Junior Winner - Charlie Wolsey-Keena
- Star Baker Junior Runner-up - Eddie Humphris
- Star Baker Senior Winner - Sydney Burnand
- Star Baker Senior Runner-up - Mr Currie
- Best Dressed Crew - The Harper Family (007 Licence to Crew)
Mr Hugh Mackworth-Praed, 1st VIII Coach, said: “I am very proud of the whole boat club for keeping their spirits high and making the most out of a less than ideal situation.
“The sense of Boat Club community over the NSR weekend was fantastic with lots of families getting involved and showing their support for Shiplake College Rowing.
“We all now look forward to moving on, and can't wait for the 2021 season to commence.”
