Business Studies

Just before half term pupils at Shiplake were treated to a week of activities and culinary delights as part of the Year 12 Enterprise Week, which forms part of their Project Management coursework unit.

The business department made an initial investment of £50 and tasked the pupils with raising as much as possible. Pupils were responsible for writing project proposals for their various enterprise activities. The proposal had to include relevant COVID guidelines and other risk considerations.

Pupils then had to justify their resource requirements, location and staffing requirements before gaining approval.

Activities included traditional sweet and drink shops, a non-uniform day, home-made pizza and a FIFA tournament.

The total raised so far for the College's charities, GAP Africa and the Reading Drop-In Centre, an amazing £1,339.30.

Charlie Neale's group organised the non-uniform day on the last day of half term, he said: "The event my group organised for Enterprise Week was a mufti day which raised money for Gap Africa, a charity that supports schools in Kenya. The project was very successful and raised just over £700 pounds which is an amazing achievement for the group. As a result of the business project I learnt many new skills relating to planning and organising a project."

Tom Stuart used his Henley Pizza business, Pizza Please, as part of his offering and served up freshly made pizzas throughout the week, he said: "I was in a group with Jack Lynskey and Archie Arnold. We decided to do a pizza pop up as I have just started my own business. We sold pizzas from the front field for three days. We were selling to different year groups each day to keep to year group bubbles. We sold out everyday!

"Enterprise week was a great success and it taught us all how to manage a project. We learnt the whole process before the actual running of the project. This included distributing different tasks to be completed between the three of us.

"We received great feedback after the project and everyone wants us back to do more!"
