At the Whole School Service at the end of term, our Language Leaders awarded some special prizes to the winners of the European Day of Languages Quiz which they had put together as a fun way to recognise the day at Shiplake.

Languages play an important role in society allowing communication and understanding between people. By learning a foreign language, you begin to understand other cultures and realise that although we are all different, there are many similarities between us all. Language helps to preserve cultures, which is important in an ever evolving world.

The European Day of Languages took place on 26 September. It is a day to celebrate other cultures, and the Language Department was keen to get as many pupils involved as possible. As a result, the 'European Day of Languages Quiz’ was created.

And the winners were:

  • Lower School Prize: Year 7: R Stewart, Oscar Spearing and Cameron McClure scored 13.
  • Middle School Prize: Year 9: Rupert Evans, Zac Powell and Ben Parrott scored 13.
  • Senior School Prize: Year 11: Oscar Smaje, Jasper Yates and Ed Houghton scored 14 (which was the highest score in the school)
