A group of Year 12 students were inspired and mesmerised by 'the best storytelling they have ever heard' in a special talk by the world's greatest explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes on Monday 29 November.
The trip was organised my Mr Parker and Mr Bowden who provided the following report:
"On Monday 29 November, a group of Year 12 pupils took a well earned rest from their books - they are currently in an internal exam week - to hear Sir Ranulph Fiennes speak in High Wycombe. Described as ‘the world’s greatest living explorer’, we knew we were in for a thrilling evening.
"And indeed it was! Sir Ranulph, or ‘Ran’, inspired, shocked, bemused and amused us, as he recounted his many and varied adventures. From stegophily (the art of climbing buildings by night) at school, to a record breaking longitudinal circumnavigation of the world, his escapades made for enthralling listening.
"At the heart of his tale, and reiterated in his frequent refrain, was the belief in the need for exceptional mental strength during endurance expeditions. A strength not founded on being sure of success, but on one's motivation for wanting to succeed. We found ourselves called to reflect on what our motivations would be for challenges we would face in our own lives, and the lesson was certainly a powerful one for all of us. Hopefully, it is something that our students will remember and fall back on in months and years to come, too.
"All in all, it was some of the best storytelling we had ever heard. Ran has an awesome ability to give you a light hearted and entertaining evening, but at the same, leave you feeling deeply challenged and humbled."
