The Exemplum Docet Society has delivered some interesting and thought-provoking talks this half term as part of the Masterclass Monday programme. From Mr Bowden talking about the physical challenges he sets himself, to talks on animal intelligence and feminism, there have been some great 'takeaways' from every session.

Mr Grant Woolner, Master of Scholars summarises each session:

Monday 24 January 2022

Once again beginning the new term with an inspirational guest speaker, the EDS was fortunate-enough to welcome our own Mr Bowden to recount highlights of the physical challenges he has - and continues to - set himself.

Whether it is running the length of the Thames in aid of Wirth Hats (which seeks to provide access to mental health treatment as well as headwear), or running to all 14 London football stadia during the first lockdown, Mr Bowden has raised over £20,000 for good causes so far.

Big or small, short or far, Mr Bowden encouraged all present to think about the ways in which they can challenge themselves in the future.

Monday 7 February 2022

Inspired by Mr Bowden's call for students to challenge themselves, Mr Woolner was delighted that our speakers this week put themselves forward to deliver a Masterclass without having been asked.

Rudi O'Keefe (Year 12 - Rugby) - whose last lecture on Joe Marler was delivered during lockdown 1, this time spoke on a subject that is both topical and close to his heart; Feminism.

Felix Collar (Year 10 - Drama) spoke with clarity, authority, and enthusiasm as he explained, using fascinating examples, why animals are far smarter than we think.

Both scholars fully lived up to our motto of Exemplum Docet - the example teaches.

You can also watch Rudi's and Felix's talks here.
