Sports Report

In this week's Sports Report, we catch up on fixtures that took place before and over the half-term break. In cricket, there were block fixtures against The Oratory School while our girls played their second hardball cricket match of the season. Meanwhile, our Lower School boys took part in an inter-school tennis tournament. Our senior rowers returned to Dorney Lake for the Met Regatta over the weekend and, in equestrianism, one of our own took part at the Schools' Equestrian Games.

Cricket

Girls' 1st XI vs Cokethorpe School

On Wednesday 24 May, the Shiplake girls played their second hardball cricket match against Cokethorpe School, playing 6 balls per over in a 12 over match. Feeling more confident after additional practice, the Shiplake girls fielded first with excellent bowling from F Lenthall and E Morris who both took wickets. Fielding was great all round and we took 5 wickets with Cokethorpe only scoring 230 runs in total.

Shiplake then batted with some strong hits from I Wood and G Weedon. After great batting from the girls, Shiplake won by 8 runs with a final score of 238 runs to Cokethorpe’s 230.

P Sanderson was awarded Batter of the Match, who also made a catch while fielding. Congratulations to A Botterill who was awarded Fielder of the Match for her exceptional opening and closing bowling.

Equestrianism - Schools' Equestrian Games

On Sunday 28 May, I competed at the Schools’ Equestrian Games (SEG) 80cm event at Lybrook Farm, Broadway. I scored a dressage score of 33.7 and had a clear show-jumping round. I received a 20-point penalty in the cross-country round in addition to 12 time fault penalty points. I am pleased with how the day went and I am excited for my next SEG event, which takes place on Saturday 10 June at Elmwood Equestrian.

Tennis - Lower School Inter-School Tournament

On a gloriously sunny day, Lower School took our top four tennis players, S Lee, A Massie, W Hunt and L Waldegrave, to compete against Pangbourne, The Oratory, Crosfields School and Leighton Park in a singles tennis tournament.

All of the boys played against very strong opposition, which made for exciting matches and very close games all round. A special mention must go to L Waldegrave who came 2nd in his group after winning three of his four matches. After all the results were in, we finished 4th place overall.

Coach: Mr A Gingell
