Trips & Visits

Last week, our Year 12 economics and business pupils visited the BMW MINI car plant in Oxford. The trip was sure to be of great use to our A-level pupils as the cohort spent the day learning more about the ins and outs of one of the world's most recognisable car brands.

The Oxford Plant is the heart of MINI. It is where all the parts are assembled and come together to make road-ready MINI models. It is the largest and oldest of their UK production plants and is open to the public for tours where visitors can experience the state of the art facilities and follow each MINI along its production journey.

The group were accompanied by Head of Economics, Mr Stuart Read, and the following is his report of the trip to the car plant:

‘On Monday 15 January, our Year 12 economics and business pupils visited the BMW Mini plant in Oxford to see how Minis are made. 3,500 people, and many more robots, work at the car plant that produces about 1,000 cars a day.

We received fascinating insights that connect to both the economics and business A-level courses, which will provide a rich reality for the pupils to hang their theories on.

As well as visiting the factory floor. pupils were able to browse the MINI museum and we topped the trip off with a rather less academic visit to McDonalds on the way home.’
