On Tuesday 10 October the Shiplake College Clay Pigeon Shooting Team took part in the Marlborough College Sporting Clay Shield competition at the Barbury shooting ground in Wiltshire.
The competition featured 32 school teams from across the country who tackled a difficult 40 bird sporting layout in an attempt to secure multiple prizes. The Shiplake team, in only their second competition, were competitive throughout and finished an admirable 8th! Our boys beat well-established teams from Eton, Harrow, Wellington and Marlborough among others. A special mention must go to the Captain Alex Geisler, high gun James Radford and last minute substitute Josh O'Hare who only took up the sport in September.
This was an excellent result against some very strong teams and the boys should all be proud of their efforts. Clay Pigeon Shooting was introduced at Shiplake last year and the team has made impressive progress since then. Thanks must also go to the instructors at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School who have been excellent in providing first rate tuition to the team. Clay Pigeon Shooting is offered as a paid co-curricular activity on a Friday afternoon and new/old guns are welcome.
