This week, we had A Conversation With... Sophia Hahn, our Deputy Head of College. Sophia is an international student from Braselton in Georgia, USA. She joined Shiplake in September 2017 and studies Chemistry, Biology and Psychology.

What do you consider to be your best qualities?

I am a hardworking, driven, and outgoing individual who loves a good challenge. I enjoy caring for others and contributing to the community of which I am a part.

What qualities in other people do you find most inspirational?

I am inspired by honest, gritty, and selfless people who never give up on their hopes and goals no matter what position they are in. These people can have a big or small impact on the society that they are a part of, but they never give up no matter the circumstances; no matter the challenge.

Which of your personal achievements are you most proud of?

Achievements that I am most proud of include being awarded a place to study at Yale University this coming September. I have been honoured with the position of Deputy Head of College at Shiplake, and I thoroughly enjoyed competing at the 2018 Junior World Rowing Championships and winning National Schools Regatta in both the Championship Quad and Eight.

How do you like to relax in your spare time?

In my spare time, I love to paint. It is an opportunity to change gears and allow the mind to explore other pathways. In addition, I love to read and watch 1980s classics.

What would be your top tip for other pupils hoping to follow in your path?

Never lose sight of your goals and passions. Sometimes the best outcomes can come from the hardest journeys. Most importantly, always remember to be proud of who you are.

What does the future hold for Sophia Hahn?

I hope to remain proud of who I am and in a career that I love; hopefully involved with politics or child therapy.
