On Friday 5 June, Burr House ran a quiz for boarding students in the Great Hall. The aim of the evening was to raise money for the charity Gap Africa, through which Burr has committed to raising £400 per year to fund the education of a student, Muvea.

At £1 per person to play the quiz, the fundraising bid was aided by the sale of soft drinks and food. 13 teams of up to five students entered to win the grand prize- a Domino’s Pizza voucher, and a £10 Tesco voucher. Second prize was a box of chocolates.

Teams pitted their wits against each other in four rounds: Dingbats, Badly Drawn, Sweet Wrappers and General Knowledge. A tense tournament followed, including much debate and conferring. The quiz ended and the moment of truth arrived. After the marks had been totalled, it was revealed that only five points separated the top three teams. Victory was snatched by the year 12 group of Alex King, Cameron Stewart, Callum and Zach Heppner-Logan, and Freddie Davis. Beaten to the post by just one point was a mixed Burr team, who took second place.

The night was a huge success, and Burr managed to raise over £60 for Gap Africa. The students and Burr House Resident Tutor, Mr Richard Ebbage, would like to thank the local businesses of Domino’s Pizza and Tesco in Henley for donating the prizes, without which the quiz could not have gone ahead. They would also like to give a special mention to Andy Turnill, George Robinson, Jason Chan and Mrs Dix for assisting with the organisation of the event.
