With Lower School pupils away on their residential trips, our Year 11 and 13 pupils completing their public examinations, and Year 12 pupils on their work experience week, only our Year 9 and 10 were in College for the penultimate week of the summer term. During this time, the pupils embarked on three days of activities including walks, sailing, smoothie making and more!
For their activities days, our Year 9 pupils were split into three groups. As in previous years the whole of Year 9 took part in an adventure week with each group departing daily for their activity of which some were on on-site and others in the surrounding area. This year, the activities included a walk from Marlow, mountain biking and roller skiing, sailing and canoeing.
For our Year 10 pupils, their activities days included a smoothie making day, where our pupils had to develop their own smoothies as well as a marketing campaign to show off their creations and, and a day with the One Day Film School, where they were taught the essentials of filmmaking and had to produce their own short films. The Year 10s then finished their week with a tutor group walk from Pangbourne to Shiplake.
On the Smoothie Day showdown, Head of Business Mr Olhausen said:
'The Year 10 students showcased their creativity skills in an adrenaline-fueled annual event known as Smoothie Day. The challenge was simple - design the ultimate smoothie masterpiece.
With over twenty ingredients at their fingertips, the students had to carefully design their smoothie recipe, selecting a maximum of seven ingredients to create their concoctions. Having gathered their chosen ingredients from the catering department, the teams embarked on a whirlwind adventure with their trusty food processors. The twelve teams also had to produce marketing materials to support the launch of their smoothie creations, which included shooting a promotional video!
By mid-afternoon, the Great Hall was transformed into a bustling arena of creativity. The twelve teams unveiled their inspired smoothie creations and staff were invited to come and sample the different smoothies and vote for their favourites.
Emerging victorious was none other than Team "Berry Brawl" whose passion and dedication catapulted them to glory. Their impressive smoothie creation was supported by a really strong marketing campaign which helped secure victory.
The Smoothie Day event was a resounding success and a testament to the incredible talents and imaginative prowess of our Year 10 students.'
