The good news for Shiplake Rowing keeps on coming! Following the success of Henry Blois-Brooke and Will Carey, being selected to row at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, fellow 1st VIII rower Seb Newman has also been selected to represent Great Britain, this time at the 2016 World Rowing Junior Championships.
The event is set to take place in Rotterdam from Sunday 21 to Sunday 28 August, and sees Great Britain crew nine boats, and 36 rowers. Seb Newman has been selected to row in the coxed four, alongside rowers from Eton College, Westminster and St Paul’s School. All the very best of luck to Seb!
And the rowing news does not stop there…1st VIII rower Tom Scott rowed for Wales in the Home International Regatta. The event was held in Cardiff Bay on Saturday 23 July. After attending a week long training camp in Cardiff, getting to know crew mates and the rowers from the Junior Wales squad, who had come to compete from various schools and clubs from across both England and Wales. Tom rowed brilliantly, racing in a coxed four and an eight. The four finished fourth by a canvas, whilst the eight managed to secure second place. Tom commented that ‘competing at the Home International Regatta was an exciting and amazing experience. Both of the races were pleasing, considering the windy conditions and the fact that we had only been rowing together for a week! I had a great time, made some new friends and hope that it is a stepping stone for greater things.’
