Hockey and Football Captains Announced

As the hockey and football season are well underway, the captains for each sport have been announced. The announcement of the sports captains is always hotly anticipated and takes much deliberation between the sports staff. Congratulations to Will Gresswell and Miles Bridgman, for securing the positions of Captain of Hockey and Captain of Football respectively.

After discussions between Director of Sport Mr Duncan Traynor, Head of Hockey Mr Tom Walter, Head of Football Mr Richard Ebbage, and the coaches involved with each team, the decision was made. Congratulations to Will Gresswell for being appointed Captain of Hockey, and to Miles Bridgman for being appointed Captain of Football. Will joined the College as a Year 9 in 2012 and quickly found his passion on the hockey pitch. Miles, a sports exhibition awards holder, joined the College in Year 8 in 2011, has been a fantastic presence in sport, both on the rugby and football pitch.

Mr Tom Walter commented on Will’s appointment: ‘Will has been a member of the first team for a number of years and his dedication and willingness to put the team first made him an obvious choice for the role of Captain of Hockey this year. He leads the way on the pitch through his endeavour and motivation to succeed and I hope that he can guide a number of younger players as a refreshed first team squad look to gel.’ 1st XI football coach Mr Alex Duncan commented on Miles’ appointment: ‘Miles was the standout candidate for selection as Shiplake College Football Club Captain. He is a fantastic footballer, inspirational leader and charismatic young man. His main strength is his all-inclusive nature and positive outlook. The younger members of the squad feel welcomed, comfortable and praised. He has been superb in his role all year.'
