On the sweltering afternoon of Thursday 25 May, each female pupil gathered together in order to take part in a Girls’ Sports Day. The afternoon, which had been organised by Gilson House Matron Mrs Lou Porter, and Sports Coach Ms Tamryn Lawrence, featured a number of traditional ‘summer fete’ games. Thank you to Head of Girls’ Games Mr Tom Walter for the following report on a successful inaugural games.

‘On a hot Thursday afternoon, the girls of Gilson House headed down to Skipwith Lawn in order to take part in the first Girls’ Sports Day. With a spectacular view of the river sparkling in the background, the girls were eager to begin the games. The first event was postponed, whilst the girls tucked into a picnic of exotic fruit skewers which had been expertly crafted by Mrs Porter, and a selection of delicious cakes provided by catering. Once the girls had loaded up on energy, the events got underway and the participants were challenged to a number of traditional races. These included the egg and spoon and three-legged races, which were reminiscent of infant school sports days and injected a sense of fun into the proceedings.

To say that the events were completed with integrity and honesty would not be the entire truth, but what can be said is that the girls all had a fantastic time, and fully embraced the afternoon. To top it off, the girls were presented with the first Gilson House banner, which we expect to see flying high at all inter-house competitions and during the upcoming whole school Sports Day.’
