Ballroom Dancing The Arts

Last weekend, year 13 pupil Sunny Pong walked away with sixth place at the NATD British National Championship in Blackpool.

After dancing for nearly three years, Sunny trains under Sharon Vickers who taught him everything he knows. Sunny joined the school in year nine and is proficient in Latin and Ballroom dance but enjoys most styles, and is also an avid rower.

Teacher Sharon Vickers said

'Sunny is such a lovely young man, he is adored by all! I've been teaching him since he started dancing and it's been wonderful to watch him develop and improve. What we need to do now is find him a regular partner so we can train him more consistently.'

Sunny has also competed in London and Chessington, where he achieved fourth place. According to dance teacher Sharon, Sunny has inspired his parents in Hong Kong, who attended the competition in Blackpool, to start dancing themselves!

The Ballroom Dance tuition is held on Tuesdays for years 11 and above, and has proved hugely popular amongst our boys and Sixth Form girls. Training is conducted by Sharon Vickers of The Dance Studio, Reading. We wish the best of luck to Sunny in his future competitions and you can read more about The Dance Studio here
