Ballroom Dancing Boarders' Programme

This term a group of Sixth Form boarders have been having ballroom dancing lessons in the Tithe Barn every Monday evening. Organised by Boarding Activities Coordinator, Mrs Sally Bayley, the lessons have been led by dance teacher Sharon Vickers from Dance Studio Reading. Year 10 pupil Zac Fisher, who is an accomplished ballroom dancer himself, has also volunteered his time to help each week, even taking the lessons on occasions when Sharon was unavailable.

To celebrate how much the boarders have progressed, a special Strictly Come Shiplake event was organised by Mrs Bayley. The Great Hall rivalled the Blackpool Tower, and the Sixth Formers and staff came together for an evening of dancing and entertainment. Providing the glitz and glamour were special guests Year 7 Daisy Crisford and Zac, who showcased a different dance before Sharon helped the rest of the attendees have a go.

Daisy and Zac, who hadn't partnered together before other than some rehearsals in the Stableyard earlier in the day much to the Lower School pupils' delight, wowed the spectators with a waltz, tango, quick step, cha cha, samba and jive - and of course there were some quick costume changes in between!

It was a fantastic event enjoyed by all in attendance and the pupils have enjoyed the lessons so much that they will be resuming them again in the Spring Term.
