Trips & Visits

On Friday 5 October, the majority of Year 10 departed for the inaugural 'Residential Activity weekend' at PGL Liddington near Swindon, Wiltshire.

The rationale for the trip was to give the cohort the opportunity to bond together over the weekend through involvement in a variety of outdoor and problem solving activities, as opposed to the usual sports or academic trips on offer.

The accommodation was basic but more than adequate for our needs. Pupils were allocated to rooms with those from other houses so that they got to know people outside their immediate peer group. This was not universally popular but I do believe it was beneficial.

Each day the boys were in groups of 9 with a member of our staff and a PGL instructor where they were able to abseil, learn to fence, quad bike, zip wire and take part in a variety of other team building and problem solving activities.

The weather, for the most part, was very conducive but we did struggle on Saturday with a very cold and wet few hours which made some of the rope climbing tasks difficult but the boys persevered well.

Assistant Head, Co-Curricular, Mr Hunt said, 'I hope the boys learned a bit about themselves over the course of the weekend by being encouraged out of their comfort zone with some of the opportunities on offer. We certainly noticed that many boys struggled with the drastic reduction in access to social media and electronic communication - something that possibly we could all do with every now and again.'

Report provided by Mr Hunt.
