Today marks 60 years since Shiplake College first opened its doors to pupils.
The College celebrated its 60th anniversary by laying the foundation stone of the multi-activity centre, which the Chairman of Governors unveiled is to be named The Davies Centre, much to the surprise of Gregg and Alison. Old Vikings and Olympic rowers Will Satch (07O), Ben Hunt-Davis (90W), Richard Lester (67S) and Malcolm Carmichael (74S) attended the ceremony to help 'break the ground', along with a number of governors and members of the Shiplake community.
Lunchtime brought more celebrations, as the Catering Department provided a birthday lunch to remember. Along with hot dogs, jelly, ice cream and birthday cake the servery was decorated with balloons and bunting, with Stevie Wonder's 'Happy Birthday' blasting out on repeat!
In addition, the College’s Camerata, consisting of pupils and members of staff, sang Thomas Morley's traditional May Day madrigal, Now is the Month of Maying at the top of Skipwith Tower. Musical performances from the tower was a tradition for many years, celebrating not only May Day, but also the College's birthday. It was a beautiful rendition, which was complemented by the glorious weather.
