The Thinking Space Team treated pupils to a Nintendo Super Smash Bros Ultimate tournament during Friday lunchtime (24 January).
The new Thinking Space Team is made up of pupils from across all year groups, who supervise the Thinking Space during extended lunches on Tuesdays and Fridays, organise the rooms and generate ideas to encourage more students to come and use the space for reading, work and other reasons at these times.
Pupils had requested a space that they could manage themselves so that groups from different houses could relax together, to either work on prep or catch-up with friends. The pupils also plan to use the room as a Boardgame Zone, for book reviews and as a Makerspace (where pupils can meet to work on STEM projects using a range of resources such as lego).
As a result, pupils were asked to volunteer for the team in December and the following pupils were selected: R Pandeva; Jamie King; Oliver Dee; Luke Byca; A Heath-Davey; Alex Subramanian.
The team chose last week’s exeat Friday as the perfect opportunity for a Smash Bros tournament. They brought in their own consoles, designed the Google sign-up sheet, wrote the email invite to pupils, delegated roles, arranged the purchase of tuck with Mrs Sally Bayley, Thinking Space Manager, and obtained permission from staff.
Congratulations to Freddie Middleton, who beat Henry Steel in a gripping final match.
Mrs Bayley, said: “On the day, the Thinking Space Team managed the pupils very well and ran a successful tournament.
“They really enjoyed the responsibility of having to manage pupils and devise contingency plans.
“I look forward to seeing what the team organises next!”
