During the Summer Term, Sixth Form students took part in a series of online talks from Old Vikings, parents and governors to give them an insight into the world of university or work, and life beyond Shiplake.
Organised by Head of Careers, Mrs Louise Rapple Moore, the aim of the talks was to generate discussion and interest in a range of topics and get students thinking not about only their future careers, but the personal skills that can be very useful for the workplace.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the following governors, parents and OVs who gave up their time to impart their experience and knowledge on our students.
- Sarah Blomfield (Governor) who talked about the world of law and what it's like working as a lawyer
- The Right Hon Tim Eggar (Chair of Governors) who talked about life as an MP
- James Hargreaves (OV) who talked about life after Shiplake, his degree and his current acting project
- Jimmy Gordon (Governor) who gave a talk entitled, 'Life's a Pitch' about personal branding
- Colin Fitzgerald (Parent) who gave a talk entitled 'The world of investment banking'
- Henry Blois-Brooke (OV) who talked about life after Shiplake, rowing, ultra-marathons and applying for the Marines.
Mrs Rapple Moore, said: "We are very fortunate to have some amazing governors, Old Vikings and parents and we were treated to some fascinating talks during the summer term on subjects as wide-ranging as parliament, investment banking, ultra-marathons, law, acting and personal branding.
"Every talk was engaging, interesting and informative and the pupils and staff who attended learned a great deal. There were always plenty of questions for the speakers after the talk and the chorus of 'thank yous' in the comments at the end made it clear how valuable our students found these sessions."
