The Summer Term is the time of year when our Year 12 pupils are researching university courses and institutions and to help them with learning more about university life, we facilitate visits to universities. This year, we have taken two groups of pupils to the University of Oxford and Royal Holloway University respectively.
The following report on the Oxford trip comes courtesy of Mr Player:
‘We were treated to a guided tour around the beautiful Trinity College by a current undergraduate, with lots of chances to ask questions not just about the University of Oxford, but about university life.
We then walked around Oxford’s town centre visiting other colleges and seeing some of the sites. It was a lovely morning and a really valuable opportunity for our sixth former pupils to get more of a feel for what undergraduate life might have in store for them when they start applying later this year.'
Speaking after this week’s trip to Royal Holloway University, Head of Careers, Mrs Rapple Moore, writes:
'We like to offer the opportunity to visit a top local university each year, and this year we visited Royal Holloway University with a group of 40 pupils. We had an excellent day, which began with an introductory talk where I was delighted to hear the university's Liaison Officer echoing the advice I give to pupils in their careers lessons.
We then had a tour of Royal Holloway's lovely campus, including the historic Founders Building, the beautiful Chapel, and the stunning new library which was completed in 2017. After lunch, pupils were treated to an economics lecture and then, finally, a question and answer session with student ambassadors from the university. Our pupils were unanimous on what an interesting and valuable experience the trip had been.’
