Sixth Form tutors are using a coaching mindset called VESPA to help develop students in their academic studies and prepare them for life outside of Shiplake.

VESPA, which stands for Vision, Effort, Systems, Practice and Attitude, is a system that draws together current thinking from psychology, business and sport to inspire, motivate and support students to ensure they achieve their full potential.

Students will undergo a short test (like a psychometric test) where they are scored out of 10 on each of the five areas.

Their tutors will then pick up on areas for improvement and develop this through coaching. The test is then repeated two more times throughout the year.

Mr Richard Curtis, Head of Sixth Form, said: “VESPA gives students the opportunity to work on personal weaknesses and consolidate strengths.

"Tutors can then respond to individual needs as opposed to having a generic overview of a group of students. I am excited to see the outcomes from this mindset for our Sixth Formers.”
