Lower School pupils were treated to a surprise fun afternoon during activities on Tuesday to welcome them back to school after the recent lockdown.
After the last lesson of the day, pupils were invited over to New Field where they were treated to a giant obstacle bouncy castle course, football, rugby, frisbee throwing, giant badminton, boules, croquet with Mr Ralph and Mr Bradley and making smores over the firepit with Mr Jones and Mr Brown.
Head of Lower School, Mr Crisford came up with the idea to surprise pupils to say a huge well done for all their efforts with online learning over lockdown and to give them the opportunity to reconnect and have fun with their friends, who they haven't seen for nearly three months.
He said:"It was really wonderful to see the boys having fun and socialising with their friends. We wanted to do something special to welcome them back to school and what better than an outdoor event where they could run around and let off some steam. We really lucked out with the weather too - it was a lovely afternoon."
The afternoon ended with races on the bouncy castle obstacle course and The Rev facing the Ice Bucket Challenge after the fantastic recent fundraising efforts for the charity Gap Africa, supporting Kikinduku Primary School and sponsoring pupils to go on to secondary school in Kenya.
He said:"It was an amazing fund raising effort during lockdown as part of our Strava Saturdays. We have raised over £4,000 to sponsor eight children to attend secondary school in Kenya. I would like to thank everyone in the Shiplake Community who donated and for their generosity."
On Wednesday lunchtime, the back drive was turned into a skatepark as Lower School boys were invited to bring in their skateboards and scooters because they have been unable to hang out at the skatepark during lockdown. 'Skatepark Wednesdays' will continue each week, so Lower School boys are more than welcome to bring their skateboard/scooter and helmet into school.
