Yesterday, Tuesday 13 September, our Year 11 Geography pupils embarked on a field trip to West Wittering on the Sussex coast for the department's first field trip of the academic year. The following, courtesy of Mr Werner Nel, is a write-up of the trip:
"On 13 September, the Shiplake Year 11 Geography cohort descended on West Wittering. From the very get-go, various obstacles out of our control meant that the bus journey down took longer than expected. This, however, did not dampen the boys' enthusiasm upon arrival on the coast.
On a day where lovely weather had been forecast for the duration of the trip, it proved not to be due to a drop in air pressure, with a cold south westerly then pushing the cumulonimbus clouds onto the coast, causing precipitation on the day.
The goal was to see longshore drift and coastal management defences in a practical, real-world setting. This was brilliantly explained by Nick and Sue from the Chichester Harbour Conservancy.
A lovely day was had by all with facilitators from the Conservancy commenting on pupils with feedback including 'brilliant manners' and 'well behaved students'. It was easy to see why the teachers in the geography department feel extremely proud to be associated with Shiplake College.
A very big thank you to Miss James for organising a great day, and also to Mr Burgess for joining us on the trip. Lastly, our geography champions, Oscar Morris and Felix Collar, both showed great interest in the work covered and led by example."
